Bureau of Police

The Bureau of Police (BOP) provides law enforcement and public safety services to Pittsburgh’s residents and visitors. The Bureau is organized into the Chief’s Office and three branches, which are each led by a sworn Assistant Chief of Police. The most notable challenges facing the BOP are those of recruitment, retention and training in an environment where traditional approaches are no longer sufficient. The report also addresses:

  • The Chief’s Office.
  • The Investigations Branch.
  • The Operations Branch.
  • Community Engagement.
  • Training.
  • Hiring.
